National Diabetes Scholarships

AAHD Frederick J. Krause Scholarship on Health and Disability
Eligibility: Applicants must be enrolled full time in an undergraduate school as a junior or above, or be enrolled full- or part-time in a graduate school, and have a documented disability and provide documentation of their disability. Applicants must be citizens or legal residents of the US and must be enrolled in an accredited US college university. Preference will be given to students majoring in public health, disability studies or research, health promotion, or a field related to diabetes and health.
Scholarship Amounts: $1,000

Eligibility: Diabetic high school seniors going to college, or students currently in college.
Scholarship Amounts: $1,000

Disabledperson, Inc. National Scholarship Competition for College Students with Disabilities
Eligibility: Enrolled in a 2-4 year accredited college or university in the U.S., matriculated student and attending school full time, U.S. citizen, proof of disability through Disability Student Services department, and written essay.
Scholarship Amounts: $2,000
Deadline: 2018-2019 school year information not yet available

Diabetes Scholars Foundation Scholarships
Eligibility: High school seniors/incoming college freshmen with diabetes.
Scholarship Amounts: $5,000, $4,000, $3,000, or $1,000
Deadline: April 15th, 2018

Los Angeles DUI Attorney Diabetes Scholarship
Eligibility: Any student who has diabetes and has been accepted to, or is in enrolled in, an accredited college or university in the U.S.
Scholarship Amounts: $1,000
Deadline: December 15th, 2018

Every Step Counts Scholarship Program

  • Living with T1D.
  • accepted or enrolled at an accredited university.
  • full-time students with above a 3.5 GPA.
  • United States citizens or legal residents living in the United States.
Preference will be given to students who show:
  • commitment to improving lives of others with T1D or other chronic conditions.
  • leadership and potential to create positive impact within the T1D community.
  • interesting personalities and hobbies.
  • passion in an area of interest.
Scholarship amounts:
  • $500 for an incoming freshman, and $500 for a current undergraduate.
Deadline: April 1st, 2018.
Elligibility: Applicants must be planning on attending a 4-year College, Community College or Trade school. Applicants must be a graduating senior with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Applicants must provide proof of having type 1 diabetes, If selected, proof of college enrollment, as a full time student, on school letter head must be submitted prior to receiving disbursement. Request for funds must be received by November 1 st of the College Freshman year or funds will be returned back to the scholarship fund
Scholarship amounts: $1,000

Sports Related Diabetes Scholarships

Novo Nordisk Donnelly Awards
Eligibility: Two one-time national awards of $5,000 each given annually to two young people aged 14-21 who have diabetes and play tennis competitively in tournaments or on their school team. Six regional awards of $2,500 each will also be granted. The awards are to be used for education, tennis development, and/or medical care.
Scholarship Amounts: $7,500 and $3,000
Deadline: April 1, 2018 

Elligibility: students with T1D are considered based on character, hard work, perseverance, need, and the love of learning.
Scholarship amounts: $5,000
Deadline: 2018-2019 school year information not available yet.

Scott And Kim Verplank Foundation
Childhood diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes
Successfully managing diabetes with proper medication, exercise, and diet.
Commitment to education by maintaining an excess of a 3.0 grade point average.
Commitment to participating in athletics by actively participating on an organized team.
Completion of application with supporting documentation and endorsements.
Scholarship Amounts: $10,000 (renewable for up to four years)
Deadline: April 15, 2018

Team Type 1 Scholarships
Eligibility: Students with Type 1 diabetes who are/will be attending an accredited NCAA Institution and who compete in an NCAA sport. Minimum GPA of 3.0.
Scholarship Amounts: $5,000
Deadline: 2019-2020 deadline not available yet.


Regional Diabetes Scholarships

Aimee Melissa Davis Scholarship
Eligibility: High school seniors with type 1 diabetes from a Travis, Hays or Williamson County, Texas.
Scholarship Amounts: $5,000
Deadline: April 1st, 2018

Diabetes Hope Foundation Scholarship
Eligibility: Canadian high school students with diabetes from Ontario and Nova Scotia.
Scholarship Amounts: $2,500
Deadline: March 9th, 2018

Incight Scholarship
Eligibility: Any student from Oregon, Washington or California who has a disability and will be attending an institution of higher education in.
Scholarship Amounts: $500 - $1,500
Deadline: Application is by invite only. Email <> for more information regarding the 2017-2018 application. Deadline is April 1st, 2018.

John E. Kostic Memorial Foundation Juvenile Diabetes Scholarship
Eligibility: High school seniors from New Jersey with diabetes seeking a higher education at an accredited four year university, college, technical or trade school.
Scholarship Amounts: $5,000
Deadline: May 11, 2018

Thomas Seefred Trust Scholarship
Eligibility: Ohio residents with diabetes between the ages of 18 and 25 pursuing a bachelor’s degree.
Scholarship Amounts: $3,000
Deadline: May 1, 2019

Type 1 Champions Scholarship Program - Kids With Courage Foundation
Eligibility: Graduating seniors and current college students with Type 1 that live in Missouri or Kansas
Scholarship Amounts: $1000, $1500, or $2500
Deadline: April 15, 2017 (2018-2019 school year information not yet available).

Academic Interest Scholarships

American Association Of Diabetes Educators
Eligibility: There are several scholarships available to members of the association, including students.
Scholarship Amounts: Scholarships vary, and are meant to ease the cost of attending the annual AADE conference.
Deadline: 2018 scholarship info not available yet

NIH Undergraduate Scholarship Program
Eligibility: Full-time student/US citizen at an accredited 4-year university. Minimum GPA of 3.3 or within the top 5 percent of your class. Demonstrates “Exceptional Financial Need.”
Scholarship Amounts: $20,000. Paid research training at the NIH during the summer, paid employment and training at the NIH after graduation.
Deadline: March 15, 2018 

Scholarships For Students Pursuing A Law Degree Katz & Phillips 2014 Ashley Rose Honorary Diabetes Scholar Award
Eligibility: Applicant must be either a current law student at an accredited law school or a student entering law school (having already been accepted to an accredited law school) this year. Applicants must have a minimum 2.8 GPA. Applicants must submit an official copy of their transcript.
Scholarship Amounts: $1,000
Deadline: July 31, 2018
