Novo Nordisk Donnelly Awards

Eligibility: Two one-time national awards of $5,000 each given annually to two young people aged 14-21 who have diabetes and play tennis competitively in tournaments or on their school team. Six regional awards of $2,500 each will also be granted. The awards are to be used for education, tennis development, and/or medical care. 

Scholarship Amounts: $5,000 and $2,500

Scott and Kim Verplank Foundation


  • Childhood diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes
  • Successfully managing diabetes with proper medication, exercise, and diet.
  • Commitment to education by maintaining an excess of a 3.0 grade point average.
  • Commitment to participating in athletics by actively participating on an organized team.
  • Completion of application with supporting documentation and endorsements.

Scholarship Amounts: $10,000 (renewable for up to four years)

AAHD Frederick J. Krause Scholarship on Health and Disability

Eligibility: Applicants must be enrolled full time in an undergraduate school as a junior or above, or be enrolled full- or part-time in a graduate school, and have a documented disability and provide documentation of their disability. Applicants must be citizens or legal residents of the US and must be enrolled in an accredited US college university. Preference will be given to students majoring in public health, disability studies or research, health promotion, or a field related to diabetes and health.
Scholarship Amounts: $1,000
Deadline: November 15, 2017

Team Type 1 Scholarships

Eligibility: Students with Type 1 diabetes who are/will be attending an accredited NCAA Institution and who compete in an NCAA sport. Minimum GPA of 3.0.
Scholarship Amounts: $5,000
Deadline: February 2017 (2018-2019 school year information not yet available)

Diabetes Incorporated

Eligibility: Diabetic high school seniors going to college, or students currently in college.
Scholarship Amounts: $1,000
Deadline: April 15, 2018

Central Ohio Diabetes Association 

Eligibility: Central Ohio students with diabetes.
Scholarship Amounts:  $500, $1,000
Deadline: February 27, 2017 (2018-2019 school year information not yet available)

Thomas Seefred Trust Scholarship

Eligibility: Ohio residents with diabetes between the ages of 18 and 25 pursuing a bachelor’s degree.
Scholarship Amounts: $3,000
Deadline: May 1, 2018

disABLEDperson, Inc. National Scholarship Competition for College Students with Disabilities

Eligibility: Enrolled in a 2-4 year accredited college or university in the U.S., matriculated student and attending school full time, U.S. citizen, proof of disability through Disability Student Services department, and written essay.
Scholarship Amounts: $2,000
Deadline: March 31, 2017 (2018-2019 school year information not yet available)

Type 1 Champions Scholarship Program - Kids With Courage Foundation

Eligibility: Graduating seniors and current college students with Type 1 that live in Missouri or Kansas
Scholarship Amounts: $1000, $1500, or $2500
Deadline: April 15, 2017 (2018-2019 school year information not yet available).

Scholly - Scholarship Search Tool

Eligibility: Scholly is a comprehensive scholarship matching platform that can be used by high school seniors, undergraduates, and graduate students. Access to Scholly costs $2.99.

Scholarships for Students Pursuing a degree in Health Care

American Association of Diabetes Educators

Eligibility: There are several scholarships available to members of the association, including students.
Scholarship Amounts: Scholarships vary, and are meant to ease the cost of attending the annual AADE conference.
Deadline: December 16, 2016 (201.8 information not yet available)

NIH Undergraduate Scholarship Program

Eligibility: Full-time student/US citizen at an accredited 4-year university. Minimum GPA of 3.3 or within the top 5 percent of your class. Demonstrates “Exceptional Financial Need.”
Scholarship Amounts: $20,000. Paid research training at the NIH during the summer, paid employment and training at the NIH after graduation.
Deadline: March 14, 2017 (2018-2019 school year information not yet available)


Scholarships for Students Pursuing a Law Degree

Katz & Phillips 2014 Ashley Rose Honorary Diabetes Scholar Award 

Eligibility: Applicant must be either a current law student at an accredited law 
school or a student entering law school (having already been accepted to an
accredited law school) this year. Applicants must have a minimum 2.8 GPA. 
Applicants must submit an official copy of their transcript.
Scholarship Amounts: $1,000
Deadline: July 31, 2018
