University Administrators

The diabetic student population is a generally unseen group which receives little to no support services. While this is simply due to a lack of awareness, it nevertheless creates a risky environment in which to live. This can often result in hospitalizations and medical emergencies which need not occur, as well as have a significantly detrimental impact on a student’s ability to be successful in their academic studies. Unfortunately damage done at this time can also create serious health complications in the future.

Often campus health services have minimal training and education regarding Type 1 diabetes and what it entails, therefore leaving students without any support for any medical challenges that arise. Dining services generally don’t cater to the needs of Type 1 diabetics by supplying appropriate foods, nutritional information, or meal plans to fulfill the needs of a diabetic diet. While this may seem inconsequential, having access to appropriate foods is vital to the management of diabetes. College Diabetes Network helps to fill this void through creating and supporting chapters on campuses which help to ensure the psychological and physical health of students. We also work with your campus’s administrators to help to make your campus more accommodating to diabetics, after which your college/university will be posted as “approved” on our website for prospective students.
